About Us

Our craftspeople live next to one of the most beautiful and dramatic coasts in Western Australia and are inspired by the rich Great Southern forests and rugged coastline. It is amidst this setting that Dean Malcolm's Woodturning Studio was established in 1995.

In 2000, South Coast WoodWorks Gallery was built to showcase the high quality craftsmanship that was emerging from the region. The Gallery was designed over a four year period and in total has over 250 square metres of display area with a range of interior spaces. Our collection focuses the finest woodwork from Albany, Denmark and Walpole.

Dean and Jackie Malcolm are passionate about locally designed–manufactured products as well as building the skills and capabilities to add value to Western Australia’s unique forest resource.

A Place of Discovery & Engagement

Over the years, WoodWorks has held many events with a range of groups and individuals within our community and beyond. These activities have included people of all ages and backgrounds from schools, universities, professional and community associations.

When visiting WoodWorks, you will be informed about how things are made, the importance of using wood, where our wood comes from, and more. Be curious and ask lots of questions!

It’s all about passion and people!

The gallery network is a made up of small independent designer-manufacturers who live and work in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia and further afield.

Our origins lie in craft-based workshops which produce intricately turned and carved boxes, bowls, hollow vessels, fine furniture pieces and exquisite contemporary decorative works which have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions around Australia and overseas.

We also engage and collaborate with other non-wood artists and designers in the community by problem solving, offering technical and business advice as well as providing manufacturing services with our custom-made technologies.
